Accounting Assistant - Part-Time

We are a family of local entrepreneurs with three businesses—U-FIX-IT Appliance Parts, Southeast Texas Pest Control, and Southeast Texas Striping. Our operations are lean and transaction-driven, with a steady flow of accounts receivable and payable that require careful, timely attention. We are looking for a reliable individual to work part time in our home-based office to support our accounting function.

Role Overview
The Accounting Assistant will serve as the critical link between our accounting system and our bank, ensuring that money in and money out is accurately recorded in real time. You will work closely with our owners to support collections, cash posting, and clerical accounting tasks across all three businesses. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone actively pursuing a career in accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable (A/P)
*Process vendor invoices and ensure timely payment
*Match purchase orders, receipts, and invoices for three-way matching
*Maintain organized records of all A/P transactions
*Flag and escalate any discrepancies to the owners

Accounts Receivable (A/R)
*Monitor and maintain aging reports to identify overdue accounts
*Follow up with customers on outstanding invoices via phone and email
*Post payments received to the accounting system accurately and promptly
*Reconcile customer accounts and resolve billing discrepancies
*Assist with collections outreach and documentation

Bank & System Reconciliation
*Perform daily or weekly reconciliation between bank activity and the accounting system
*Post bank transactions including deposits, ACH payments, and wire transfers
*Assist with month-end close tasks and reconciliation reporting
*Maintain clean, audit-ready records across all three company files

Qualifications
*High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in accounting or business preferred
*Basic understanding of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger concepts
*Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general comfort with accounting software
*Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
*Clear communicator, especially for collections follow-up
*Highly organized with ability to manage multiple tasks across three business entities
 
Details
*Hours: Part-time, 24 hours per week, Monday through Thursday
*Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
*Work Location: In-person, home-based office
